Boston CELTICS defeated the CAVALIERS after 5 games: The NBA Eastern Conference Finals 2024 welcomes the first team

For the third consecutive year, the Boston Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals, marking the sixth time in 8 NBA Playoffs seasons they have achieved this. Led by Jayson Tatum’s near-triple-double performance (25 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists), the Boston Celtics overcame the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers with a score of 113-98 on the morning of May 16th, defeating their opponents after 5 games.

As the top seed in the Eastern Conference and boasting the best overall record in the league during the Regular Season, the Celtics have become the first team to advance to the NBA Playoffs 2024 Conference Finals.

Jayson Tatum “resolved the conflict”, led the Boston Celtics with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists in Game 5

With the absence of 3 out of the top 5 scorers for the Cleveland Cavaliers, including Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen, and Caris LeVert, the Boston Celtics seemed poised to easily win Game 5.

However, that was not the case due to the excellent efforts of the Cavaliers’ supporting cast, especially the young talent Evan Mobley and the seasoned veteran and former Celtic, Marcus Morris.

Evan Mobley (No. 4) and Marcus Morris brought a brave match for the Cavaliers on a day when the team was missing three key players.

This duo played extremely well and took turns contributing points for the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Morris carrying the team in the first half and Mobley stepping up in the third and fourth quarters.

However, despite the strong performances from just two players, the Cavaliers couldn’t make it happen, especially when the other two starters, Darius Garland and Max Strus, combined for only 7-27 FG shooting and 3-11 3PT shooting.

Evan Mobley scored 33 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists in this game. Marcus Morris Sr. contributed 25 points and 2 steals, shooting 5-6 from beyond the arc in 34 minutes of play.

Donovan Mitchell (wearing gray jersey) seemed helpless on the sidelines, unable to do anything other than cheer on his teammates. He suffered two injuries and has been absent since Game 4.

For the Boston Celtics, Al Horford stood right behind Jayson Tatum with 22 points (6-13 3PT), 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.

Four other Celtics players scored 11 points or more, including Payton Pritchard, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White. The entire Celtics team made 19 three-pointers at a shooting percentage of 44.2% from beyond the arc. Out of their 42 successful field goals, Boston recorded 32 assists.

With this result, the Boston Celtics will compete in the Eastern Conference Finals series for the third consecutive year (2022, 2023, and 2024), marking their sixth appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals out of the past 8 seasons at the TD Garden.

This is the second time that the Boston Celtics have reached the milestone of reaching 6 conference finals in 8 years, with the previous one occurring from 1980 to 1988.
