The excellent MU women’s team defeated Tottenham 4-0 to win the FA Cup

MU co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe opted not to attend the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Instead, the English billionaire and INEOS oil conglomerate owner, along with Avram Glazer, watched the Manchester United men’s team lose 0-1 to Arsenal at Old Trafford in the 37th round of the Premier League last night and early ther morning on the 13th of May.

In contrast to Ratcliffe, some Tottenham legends joined the crowd of 67,082 people at the sun-drenched Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup final. Tottenham icons Ozzie Ardiles and Ricky Villa were spotted in the stands alongside Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

In a season where manager Marc Skinner has faced pressure from MU fans, today’s match was an opportunity for the MU women’s team to make hertory. Manager Marc Skinner deployed veteran Williams in the front three alongside Leah Galton and Lucia Garcia.

Williams put her name on the scoreboard

In the first half, the game was fairly balanced as Tottenham initially appeared solid in defense. MU created two consecutive chances early in the game, with a header hitting the crossbar in the fourth minute and a header wide of the post eight minutes later. Meanwhile, Tottenham also came close to scoring with Martha Thomas’ shot in the 10th minute.

In the tug-of-war match, MU managed to break the deadlock in injury time of the first half. In the 45+3 minute, Ella Toone’s right-footed shot from the edge of the box opened the scoring for the “Red Devils.” Things went from bad to worse for Robert Vilahamn’s team in the second half as MU scored two goals in three minutes.

First, Williams broke through Spurs’ defense to head in Katie Zelem’s direct free-kick, making it 2-0 in the 54th minute. And three minutes later, Lucia Garcia capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper Becky Spencer from Spurs to slot the ball into an empty net, extending the lead to 3-0.

MU women’s team lifted the FA Cup title

It was also Spanish women’s national team player Lucia Garcia who completed her brace after a pass from Melvine Malard, sealing a 4-0 victory for MU with a goal in the 74th minute.

Meanwhile, the MU men’s team has also advanced to the FA Cup final, setting up a rematch with arch-rivals Manchester City, who defeated the “Red Devils” in the FA Cup final last season at Wembley Stadium. If they manage to defeat Manchester City at Wembley again, both the MU men’s and women’s teams will be crowned FA Cup champions this season.
